Equestrian Services in Scottish Borders
The Scottish Borders have a proud horse tradition. The Common Ridings, held in towns such as Hawick, Selkirk and Jedburgh each summer, see hundreds of riders follow ancient boundary routes on horseback, and Kelso Racecourse is a popular jumps venue.
Where to ride in Scottish Borders
Rolling hills, river valleys and forests make the Borders excellent riding country, with tracks across the Cheviots and the Moorfoot and Eildon Hills. Scotland's right of responsible access lets riders use many paths and tracks, as long as they follow the Scottish Outdoor Access Code.
Riding schools, livery and lessons in Scottish Borders
Our Scottish Borders directory lists riding schools, livery yards, trainers and stables in places such as Selkirk, Hawick, Jedburgh, Kelso and Coldstream. Most riding schools offer group and private lessons for beginners and experienced riders, and many run pony days and holiday clubs for children. Prices vary between centres, so it is worth contacting a few to compare. Look for British Horse Society (BHS) or Association of British Riding Schools (ABRS) approval as a sign of good standards.
