Equestrian Services in Lancashire
Lancashire mixes busy towns with some of the wildest riding country in the north of England, from the Forest of Bowland to the West Pennine Moors, and has a strong community of riding schools and livery yards.
Where to ride in Lancashire
The Forest of Bowland, a National Landscape north of Preston and Clitheroe, offers moorland and river valley rides. In the east, the Pennine Bridleway, a long-distance trail built for horse riders, passes close to Bacup and Burnley, including the Mary Towneley Loop. The West Pennine Moors near Darwen and Blackburn are also popular, while the flatter countryside around Ormskirk suits gentler hacking.
Riding schools, livery and lessons in Lancashire
Our Lancashire directory lists riding schools, livery yards, trainers and stables in towns such as Preston, Ormskirk, Lancaster, Bacup and Blackburn. Most riding schools offer group and private lessons for beginners and experienced riders, and many run pony days and holiday clubs for children. Prices vary between centres, so it is worth contacting a few to compare. Look for British Horse Society (BHS) or Association of British Riding Schools (ABRS) approval as a sign of good standards.
