Equestrian Services in Dorset
Dorset is famous for its coastline, but inland it has rolling chalk downs, heathland and quiet lanes that make it a lovely county for riding. Much of it is protected as a National Landscape.
Where to ride in Dorset
Cranborne Chase in the north-east of the county offers chalk downland and woodland riding, while the heaths and forests around Wareham give sandy tracks that drain well in winter. The hills and valleys around Dorchester, Sherborne and Blandford Forum have plenty of bridleways, and the New Forest is close by for riders in the east of the county.
Riding schools, livery and lessons in Dorset
Our Dorset directory lists riding schools, livery yards, trainers and stables in towns such as Blandford Forum, Sherborne, Dorchester, Weymouth and Bridport. Most riding schools offer group and private lessons for beginners and experienced riders, and many run pony days and holiday clubs for children. Prices vary between centres, so it is worth contacting a few to compare. Look for British Horse Society (BHS) or Association of British Riding Schools (ABRS) approval as a sign of good standards.
