Equestrian Services in Cumbria
Cumbria is home to the Lake District National Park and part of the Yorkshire Dales, and it is some of the most spectacular riding country in England. The county is also home to the Fell pony, a hardy native breed bred on the Cumbrian fells for centuries.
Where to ride in Cumbria
Riding centres in and around the Lake District offer treks over fells and through valleys and forests, with views across the lakes. The quieter countryside around Carlisle, Penrith and Brampton in the north of the county has bridleways and lanes, and the Eden Valley offers gentler riding between the Lakes and the Pennines.
Riding schools, livery and lessons in Cumbria
Our Cumbria directory lists riding schools, livery yards, trainers and stables in places such as Carlisle, Penrith, Ulverston, Brampton and Grange-over-Sands. Most riding schools offer group and private lessons for beginners and experienced riders, and many run pony days and holiday clubs for children. Prices vary between centres, so it is worth contacting a few to compare. Look for British Horse Society (BHS) or Association of British Riding Schools (ABRS) approval as a sign of good standards.
